7th Street Garage Loading Dock Reinforcement

Large cracks formed in concrete beams after a heavy truck used an interior loading dock. After reviewing the current conditions and original construction drawings, MCE found that original detailing of the concrete beams had created a weak beam condition. We reviewed multiple options for reestablishing structural capacity, including adding rebar and concrete, strengthening the system with Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP), and supplementing the structure with steel. The client chose the steel option for a fast turnaround to reopen the loading dock.
